Fun N’ Flirty: Birthday Party!

Last week was a hectic one. Not only did I cover the Los Angeles Film Festival for VIBE (and interview celebrities such as Louis Gossett Jr., Ava DuVernay, Goapele and Beverly Johnson, before screening the ground-breaking films, “Middle of Nowhere” and “About Face”), but my friendly Gemini’s were in full-blown effect!

Our very own Lipstick, Lace & Lattes’ Sheridan Street’s (aka “Mermaid’) birthday was on Tuesday (June 19th), Hazzle Joy’s boyfriend’s birthday was on Friday (June 22nd), and so was Lisa’s little sister and my good friend, Shai Labay. To say that I had week full of Gemini twin versatility would be an understatement!

To celebrate Mermaid’s birthday, a couple of our close friends decided to get together and head out to a party at a popular L.A. warehouse. I can’t remember the exact name of the club, but it was about 10 minutes away from USC and it literally looked like an old warehouse on the outside, but cleaned up very nicely once you got on the inside. I was feeling pretty fun and flirty so I decided to wear a colorful outfit to reflect my upbeat mood. I actually bought the dress from Forever 21 awhile ago, but I altered it to fit my personal style. The dress originally had straps (which I cut off, and then re-sowed to make a strapless bust that angled up into two V-shapes), and it also billowed out over the hip area (which I also cut and sowed to be more form-fitting). I didn’t get to take a picture of my shoes but I wore black Steven Madden pumps to complete the look.

Outfit Details:
Dress: (From Forever 21)
Earrings: Hand-made by Melanie Luna of Head Jyve. (I’ll be doing a “Features” post on her accessories line soon!)
Black Suede Belt: (From thrift store)
Multi-Colored Chain Bracelets: (From Forever 21)
Ring: (From boutique)
Shoes: Steve Madden black pumps (not pictured)
Lipstick: Up the Amp! (From Mac)

P.S. We ate fried chicken, potato salad and watermelon (stereotypical Black people, I know) at the pre-party at Mermaid’s house before heading out… Not your typical pre-party food, but delicious nonetheless! ;)
